daniele farinas reflects on her career
Danielle Farinas, a member of the inaugural class for Lynn Women’s Lacrosse is set to graduate from Lynn University in the Spring of 2023 with a degree in Biology.
Hailing from the local high school of Saint John Paul II Academy, Farinas is a local name to South Florida. Choosing a college that was a perfect fit for her came with two requirements, lacrosse and being close to home. Which made Lynn University the best option for the future of Danielle’s career in lacrosse and academics. For Lynn, it sold even deeper because of the opportunity to begin a new women’s lacrosse team, knowing that she could have an impact on a new team as an influential player who could build a legacy.
After beginning her time with Lynn Women’s lacrosse, Farinas was met with many challenges and obstacles. Her advice would be, “don’t stress the little things, trust the process because not everything is going to start out perfect or in your favor. Hard work and time will lead you where you want to go”. Using this wisdom, Farinas has been able to carve her way into a star player for the Fighting Knights. Danielle has been able to become one of the leading goal scorers for the Knights, racking up 100 career points in her junior season. She recalls her proudest moment, “our win against Rollins my junior year would be my proudest moment, even though I got hurt in the second quarter our team dynamic and how much of a family we are really showed on the field”. Also, her victory in clinching her first player of the week feature in 2022 was a pivotal point in recognizing her abilities.
However, these happy moments did come hand in hand with some shortcomings in her career. Facing a string of injuries, Farinas has seen firsthand what it feels like to only be able to watch the sport you love, and not contribute on the field. “Hurting my hamstring at the end of my junior season would have to be my biggest hardship”, said Farinas. Knowing that she was so close to achieving her goals, yet was unable to, was a mental hurdle she had never crossed before.
Dealing with hardships, victories, and emotions of all sorts, Danielle Farinas looks back on her time with Lynn Women’s lacrosse fondly. “My biggest take away is how much the game has given to me for being a part of the team. Becoming a leader has shaped me as a person and given me skills and life lessons that I will value forever”, said Farinas. As she looks ahead to her future, Danielle expects her final season to be the best one yet, hoping to be number one in the conference and hopefully win a national championship. Upon graduation, she looks to continue her studies and go into pharmaceutical sales one day.
