lynn women’s lacrosse first scrimmage

Lynn Women’s Lacrosse, 2019

How the Brand New Team Graced the Field for the First Time

The Fall of 2019 brought around a new team to Lynn University, Women’s Lacrosse. With a brand new group of players, coaches, and staff, the group was in for an uphill battle in the extremely competitive Sunshine State Conference.

After preparing and training for several weeks, the team was met with their first challenge, a scrimmage against the powerhouse Rollins College on September 29th, 2019 . This matchup took place on the team’s practice field, with fans, friends, and family in attendance. This was a stressful situation for the girls, as they had never played a full game together, and adding a crowd into the mix did not make it any better.

Starting the game off were players like Delaney Gould, KK Doyle, and Sarah Shaffer, who were itching to start the competition. The team was hit with a challenge from the jump, as Rollins, the more experienced and put together team, quickly began to trample them. Point after point began to mark the scoreboard, and not in Lynn’s favor. However, the team managed to regroup, and redefine the approach they were taking into this battle.

Lynn was able to put the ball in the back of the net 5 times after this regroup, bringing a sense of hope to the field with them.  Unfortunately, this optimism did not stick long for the team, as Rollins quickly and aggressively picked back up on their game.

The scrimmage ended in an 11-5 win for Rollins College, leaving Lynn with their first ever off the book loss. However, there was an abundance of happiness and hope for the team, as they were immensely proud of the game they were able to play together as a first year program. This optimism paved the way for all future seasons for Lynn Women’s Lacrosse, as their ability and skill has only increased since.
